  • Sounds like the circuit breaker has died. They are available at hardware and building supply stores. It sounds like the breaker switch is bad... or worse case there is metal touching a wire. Or polarization has occurred. The latter needs an electrican.

Unplug it from the wall receptacle, open up the plug and you will see immediately what the problem is. Probably will be blackened and burnt looking. That's from the sizzling. There is a possibility the plug itself might need to be replaced. Not a big deal really.

    An electrical hum can come out of a circuit breaker if it is overloaded with current and not shutting off as it's meant to.
